Aces season ends in sweep, Valkyries advance to WNBA Finals

LAS VEGAS — The quest for another back-to-back bid is over.
The Las Vegas Aces’ season is over at the hands of a three-game sweep from the Golden State Valkyries, losing 87-77 in overtime of Game 3 of the WNBA semifinals at Michelob Ultra Arena on Friday.
It’s the first time since the 2020 WNBA Finals that the Aces have been swept in the playoffs.
MVP A’ja Wilson had 21 points and 10 rebounds, but she shot 6 of 19 from the floor. Point guard Chelsea Gray had 17 points, but she shot 1 of 6 from the floor in the second half.
The Valkyries will play the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA Finals beginning Oct. 17. Atlanta completed the three-game sweep of the New York Liberty on Friday.
Golden State went on an 8-0 run to take a 71-69 lead with less than a minute to go.
Guard Jackie Young (18 points) had 10 points in the fourth quarter and tied it with a cutting layup with 26.2 seconds left in regulation.
Gray’s potential game-winning jumper rimmed out at the buzzer.
The Valkyries outscored the Aces 16-6 in overtime.
The Aces led 47-36 following after two Wilson free throws 50 seconds into the third quarter. Golden State responded with a 17-0 run to take a 53-47 lead, capped by a corner 3-pointer from center Kiah Stokes (11 points).
Kayla Thornton led the Valkyries with 18 points, while Gabby Williams scored 16.
