My Answer

From the writings of the Rev. Billy Graham

Q: I’m not sure I agree with many churchgoers who say that Satan is attacking marriage and the family and that he is following his pattern of disrupting what God has intended. We all make mistakes and it seems we should own up to it rather than blaming the devil, though there are times we may act like a devil. – M.F.

A: The family is the first institution God created and should be honored and held in high esteem since it is from the heart of the Lord who has designed this relationship to mirror His relationship with His people and His church.

From the beginning, Satan has tried to disrupt the unity of the Trinity. First, Satan tried to make himself a part of the Trinity by desiring to be coequal with God. It was his sin of pride that caused his expulsion from Heaven. Second, Satan was successful in tempting our first parents into sin, thereby breaking the unique relationship between man and his Creator. Third, Satan tried to pry Jesus loose from His relationship to the Father when he tempted Him in the wilderness. Today, Satan is eating away like a large termite at the foundation of marriage and the family.

We are indeed responsible to God for our sin against Him, and we should always be mindful that Satan is using every trick he has to lead us to the wrong path. The Bible says that we should commit our ways to the Lord and our pathways will be established. We must humble ourselves and lay aside our pride and desire to please ourselves. This leads us into the right relationship with the Lord and brings great joy.
